In this chapter, Eric confronts the elders in an argument over Luke’s fate. Although Eric doesn’t know what they want out of the conversation – or even what he wants – he does know what to prevent them from learning. But as he skirts around the topics he knows to keep secret, he’s forced to reveal more than expected and he doesn’t seem to be winning them over to his side. With Luke’s fate in the balance, does Eric have the skill to negotiate with the dangerous elders?
Luke has heard dragons all his life and when a dragon summoned him to raise her dragonlings, he ran away to help her. But the world he enters is fraught with danger and his access is limited. He raises his dragonlings and knows little of the outside world or his role in it. As the dragons begin dying off and dragon tamers like him become scarce, a rival tribe kidnaps him and everything he knows is thrown into question.
